The Andy Towns Cup - U17s

The SERYFA U17s will play for a new cup this season THE ANDY TOWNS CUP. The cup has been presented to the Seryfa Alpha Trophies leagues in memory of a former play who played in our leagues.

Andy Towns was only 18 years old when his life was cut short in a traffic accident in 2019 while he was travelling in Laos, Southeast Asia, during his gap year between Boroughmuir High School and going on to Strathclyde University.
Andy had always been a talented sportsman but his greatest love was football. Andy started playing for his Bruntsfield Primary School team at the age of six on Harrison Park. It was then a natural move for him to join North Merchiston Football Club where he went on to develop such a passion for both the game and the Club, that he continued playing there until he was 16 years old. He was honoured to be voted their Players’ Player of the Year in the 2014/15 season, when the team won both their League & Division Cups, and he was proud to receive the Club’s award for Outstanding Services. When North Merchiston couldn’t support a side at Under 19 level, he and several of his teammates were given a warm welcome by Edinburgh United where Andy enjoyed a great season playing for their under 19s at Pattie’s Road. Andy then chose to move to Edinburgh City where he had a very successful 2018/19 season until he left to travel. Edinburgh City voted Andy their Players’ Player of the Year - an award that his parents proudly received on his behalf.
Andy was lucky to have been able to play the sport he was so passionate about.  Over the years, at all three clubs where he played youth football, he had great teammates and inspirational coaches.  No doubt, all played a huge part in helping him to develop into the great young adult he became.  His parents have donated the Andy Towns Cup in his memory and in recognition of all the wonderful years he enjoyed playing in the SERYFA leagues.
